Canadian Infantry Near Nijmegen, Holland, by Alex Colville

This painting depicts the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, marching along a dyke in Holland late in WWII.

The artist used his father's hands and face as a model for the soldier in front.

i seen a biography on Colville, he is a artist very paced with his work, with an average of 2 new paintings a year - extensive compositional mock ups - Hell, he even designed his own home - and yes his style is very captivating - one of the few Canadian artists i admire.
