1-- extreme makeover begins (this stage is also known as "Crikey, my face hurts!") 2--her dreams come true: she is celebrated far and wide for her beauty and fake breasts 3--true love ensues, and they live happily ever after
Ah, the classic response, though I beg to differ that tv is killing us all. To me that's like John Lithgow blaming music and a free spirited Kevin Bacon for corupt kids in Footloose. It's not the tv, it's the shows. And the reason those shows are able to exist is because we watch them. If we didn't watch the crap that's on tv they wouldn't make it anymore. Television has many redeemable qualities as a medium of communication AND art/entertainment. Sadly, the bar has just been lowered EXTREMELY low. But, like I said, we have no one to blame for that but ourselves.
p.s. did mr. bin laden read my three-part commentary that accompanies these images? if not, he should do so. after reading the comments, the "don't watch TV" point becomes fairly moot, no?
i think TV, in all its ugliness, is every bit as much a cultural artifiact as, say, painting, music, movies, etc. what it revelas about our culture is our essentially shallow, self-centered values (get a nose job! be loved and beautiful!), as well as what we prioritize--decadence, instant gratification, the trappings of success, outer beauty, etc.
A Love for Art was a collaborative blog for visual artists, musicians, writers, and social scientists. This blog has evolved into a new blog called BETA, go check it out!

amen, brother!
i would say that, in a very roundabout and perhaps unconscious way, that's the point i was trying to make with this post.

I hope you're in Winnipeg for X-mas Lorne, so we can share a yule tide beer! Perhaps while watching Ultra Extreme Makeover II, heh heh! :P
totally. maybe we can even get krahn out of the house, though i doubt it. he lacks the moral courage that you and i have.
