booyah! JC comes through in a crunch!

Who is JC, and what is this festival?

Lorne Roberts said...

JC is jesus christ, jesu christo, etc.

the feast of tabernacles, though i'm not sure of its exact meaning, is a traditional jewish holiday. jesus was celebrating it at the synagogue because he was an orthodox jew.

p.s. as his fame as a teacher/prophet began to grow, crowds usually followed him around, so in this context (i'm guessing) he was addressing a crowd outside the temple who wanted to hear him speak.

When I first read this, I assumed it was referring to James Culleton!!!

Jesus said stop judging by external standards He also said He is the way the truth and the life
We being human want it our way so we can do the evil that we justify and pat ourselves on the back
thats why the consequences of choices become clear He also said you will reap what you sow: disease, stds, vd, aids violence, murder hate envy jealousy . Now we pay for it (the health care astronomical!!
Buddah died never rose Mahammid died never rose again....
Jesus died and rose three days later and lives forever
He also said just believe

"i am the way the truth and the life" jesus is QUOTED as saying in a book written by someone who wanted very much for this to be true-- a book written at the very least 80 years AFTER jesus died, and probably more like 150 or 200 years after he died. not exactly a verifiable piece of history, is it?

funny (sad) how anyone who throws in their christian faith immediately has to follow it up with a statement like: "that's why you're all getting punished! because you're all so evil".

and if it's true that you reap what you sow, then a lot of fat, rich christians out there, driving their SUV's to their big-box churches while the rest of the world starves to death will have a lot to answer for.

p.s. for all non-biblical scholars out there, the book of john, which contains most of the claims for jesus' divinity ("i am god" or "i am the son of god") is usually accepted to be written anywhere between 20 and 150 years after his death. the 20 years figure comes from the most conversative christian scholars, while most historians and scholars who don't have a vested interest in it (i.e. i believe jesus is god therefore i want the bible to reflect that) date it much, much later.

the book of john deviates pretty significantly from the other 3 gospels, all of which seem to come from a single lost source ("Q"), and all of which contain few claims for divinity, unlike the book of john which is essentialy a long, structed arguement for the case of jesus being god.

it's most likely that this book was written by someone who was born long after jesus death, and whose evidence all comes second or third hand.

a few quotes from the wonderful televangelist guy Franklin Graham, who was recently in Winnipeg:

"The god of Islam is not the same God of the Christian or the Judeo-Christian faith. It is a different god, and I believe a very evil and a very wicked religion."

"But let's use the weapons we have, the weapons of mass destruction if need be and destroy the enemy." (CNN, September 14, 2001)

"...we'll make a great mistake if we hold back our technology and hold back our weapons and put young men and women in there and sacrifice them because we're scared to use some of our major weapons. And I think we're going to have to use every -- and I hate to say it, hellish weapon in our inventory, if need be, to defeat these people." (CNN, September 14, 2001)

"I have no need to retract that statement, because I never once said: 'We should drop nuclear bombs on Afghanistan.'"-- Winnipeg Free Press, October 22, 2006

"I never had sex with that woman." Bill Clinton

So it goes without saying people are blind and want to believe what they want and hear what thier itchy ears want to hear. Its funny that you say christians are fat and rich have SUVS LOL.
Did you hear of the christian who was a doctor died and gave the whole estate all the contents and millions of dollars to a fund for the street people and a medical clinic. I could go on and on about countless christians who have done very helpful things in the name of the only God.
The blessings that we get we use for good not evil not many people can see that most foundations that help the poor and needy have given countless millions dollars to reach out to them: but noone sees the countless millions of dollars spent on robbing the people for thier own gain. Im speaking vlts countless gambling facilities then we end up having to pay more for rehabilitation facilities. The Christians are more giving no need to say. I hope your eyes will be opened and your no wolf. Your a person who wants to know truth in the deeper area of your soul. Thats what this whole spiritual battle is all about!

I want to lash out on you anonymous, as your tone is one of judgement, and there is no place for that here.

ah, yes, one christian doctor died and gave his money to charity. and i commend him for that. and the mennonite central committee is probably among the most useful, progressive aid organizations in the world. of course there are good christians out there--most christians i've ever met are kind, sincere people who genuinely believe they have the truth.

they also have an obsession with making lists of everyone (them excluded, of course) who's going to hell. and in the modern age, particuarly in the u.s., they're a force screaming for holy war, and continuing to push us into global environmental collapse with their insistence on us having "dominion" over the earth. you may LOL about it anon, but right-wing christians compose one of the richest, most obsese, most over-consuming forces on planet earth. this is a fact, by the way, not an opinion.

and by the way, there are also just as many athiests, hindus, buddhists, and so on who give massive amounts of money to charity, and devote their lives to helping others. so your point is moot.

the christain focus on individual salvation has led them to ignore the larger problems in the world on a grand scale. some, like this doctor, may be doing good deeds, but on the whole the christian church is utterly unconcerned with the rest of the world--too busy building new churches and parking lots to care about the environment or global human suffering.

like you, anon, i was once a christian. i still am, in fact, though not your type of judgemental, finger-pointing christian. thankfully, i've been liberated into a more enlightened view, though i am, of course, still searching. and you're wrong-- I AM A WOLF!!! I AM WOLFBOY!!!

the funniest thing about modern christianity in general (and people like franklin graham) is that it was that very type of self-righteous religiosity that jesus attacked, and that got him crucified--by the smug, powerful religious leaders of the day, and the complacent, rule-following religious types who had no real faith, compassion, or belief.
