Just a bad play on "pencil drawing". I just meant to say that this was a very "male" and sexualized representation of a woman.
This character/image has grown on me though and I recognize that it holds a certain power and mythology. I just have a dissonance when it comes to some of these images.
and a male representation and sexualized version of the goddess Bast, not that a women wouldn't sexualize a character but it's nuances are different I think.
Sheesh, can you tell I had a super religious upbringing....
For those of you who don't know, this is a drawing of one of our friend, Andrew's, photoshop-collages.
I don't personally know about "Bast" but would like to hear more.
I'm curious. what makes it "male" and what makes it "sexualized"? Surely its not sexualized simply by the fact that its nude...is it? Is it Male too because it's a nude, and that's what males do, is draw naked women, hehe. Personally I kind of find the cat-woman to be kind of tough looking.
I can see how it's a sexual image, mostly because of her posture. I know I don't tilt my pelvis and shoulders like when I'm just walking down the street or talking to my grandparents.
But that's not a bad thing. i personally find these kinds of images beautiful.
The cat face is tough, and not so feminine. I'd like to try putting my kitty's face on a human body. He'd be a potbellied man in a business suit.
I agree about the posture too. Male because of the tones of power and fear of this figure and maybe the head being male. Certainly beautiful duality on so many levels.
The goddess Bast was one incarnation of the goddess Sehekmet. Bast being the goddess of pleasure/joy and Sehekmet the goddess of war? I think anyways. I'm teaching Ancient Egypt to gr. 8's right now. THey think it's BORING......

ha! good call anita, all around. that's more or less exactly where i'd weigh in on the issue.
it is a very beautiful image, and sexy too.
my cats:
--a small, very sensitive young woman, adopted from an orphanage;
--a mid 30's, extremely beautiful but peevish business woman. spent some time on the streets as a youth.
--a very vain, but very intelligent and regal male "bar star".
I think the cat/animal heads go back to ancient egypt. I used to be up to speed on history(double negative?) back in muh lernin` days.
