poker night
I got to play poker last weekend with my buds but not for to long. So I found time to get in a drawing too. Just to note Ace high is not worth betting your shirt on.

Extreme Makeover
The Name that can be named...
...is not the nameless way.
But wither goest thou, ALfA,
in thy shiny cars in the night? and
what dreams I have of thee,
as if Whitman or
somebody were speaking from some
dreary late-night hang
over
and hanging over the precipice of
time and
everything coalesced into
one.
the
myriad creatures see this
and know that it
is be.

Shameless Plug
OK, this is just an announcement of an upcoming show... my apologies for the use of this space for my own personal self-interest, but I won't be selling anything if that makes anyone feel any better!
On Thursday, November 30th, I will be performing a solo set backed up by the inestimable Mr. Alf Catolico on drums, as part of Janine Gobeil's cd release at the Academy Coffee House.
Songs are from my upcoming album, which is under the working title of 'Mute'. Those of you who know me and Alf from the band 'Volume' will get that joke...

This guy was just in Winnipeg doing a residency at Martha Street Studio. It was an exchange arranged through La Maison des Artistes. He was a pretty funny guy.

Knick Knackerson?
Anthology?
This is the #1 match when you search Google for "Don Maximo" under images!
On another note: Has anybody ever thought of meticulously searching the ALFA archives for poetry, etc and compiling an anthology? I was perusing the dense back-logs today in search of my own writings for a university anthology and it occurred to me that this could be a cool thing for ALFAites to do. You could even print and publish it. Ha! Now that I think of it, a hardcopy ALFAZINE would be awesome to work in conjunction with the gallery. Hoo, I'm getting ahead of myself I think - I don't even live in Winnipeg anymore. Any thoughts on this though?

$934,000 for Thompson painting
(This is not the painting that sold)
A Tom Thomson oil sketch of Ontario's northern wilderness sold for $934,000 at auction in Toronto on Monday, well above the last record price for a Thomson painting.
Art dealer David Loch of Winnipeg won a brisk bidding war for the painting, Burnt Area with Ragged Rocks, at the Sotheby's and Ritchies auction of Canadian art.

Toronto International Art Fair
As part of my "work" at the Art Fair, I went around photographing all the western Cdn booths for galleries west magazine-- they wanted shots of galleries from the west, or who exhibit western Cdn artists.
The three guys are the nice chaps from othergallery-- paul, paul, and aleem. The super-hot pair is dan and alysha from monte clark gallery, which is in vancouver and toronto--don't let their too-cool for school look fool you, they were actually two of the friendlier people i met at the fair. I said they should be models.
In the other photo, Paul Butler of othergallery gets ready to address the crowd as part of a panel discussion w/ Jessica Bradley of TO, Yves Trepanier (of Cgy's TrepanierBaer), and Robert Enright.
