Dont be Afraid of the Apocalypese

ApocalypseCountDown, originally uploaded by The Stranger.

Im telling you not to be afraid. Louis Riel as a centaur holds the red pentacle flag as Geronimo waits in ambush. Sitting Bull and Wild Bill conspire. Babel sends out its army.

I know you say don't be afraid, but this scares me a little bit. The 'revolutionary' position your taking isnt helped by pictures of tanks, and to announce the apocalypse in art is to evoke it. We are the creators of reality (through culture and perception) and should paint nice things like apoalypses with people holding hands and swaying or something. Less rifles anyhow. I know, I know, "we were doing so good with the positivity thing, and here comes 'macro' to wreck our big party"

These artworks are made up of the daily news, religious iconography, and historical figures from the past among other elements. I don t claim to take any position other than the position of not being afraid. As an artist, Im trying to act as a tuning fork for the world without making judgement.

Ah, to be a sounding board for the world's heavy expression.

Some are chosen, and no one should be afraid.

Love Jah and yee shall be saved.

And oh yeah, we are not the only creators of reality, there is clearly something preexisting us, something that we have access to, not just the twirlazoo of our own culture and perception. All filters have holes, plus the mighty essence knows no filter.

So no holding hands?

I was under the impression all art was political (Herring?), and that an expressionless painting is impossible, even minimalists failed. Really, what's more political than telling us how to BE, that is "I'm telling you not to BE afraid". I don't mean to disagree, but I like to say "welcome your fear, it's an ancient instinctive drive with a long history of successes. The abstract measurement between flight and fight, and is just one of the many ways to feel. And if anyones interested we're not in dissent.

I thought it would be a good idea to debate this here so no one gets nervous and reports us as a cult =)

Ne me dites pas que, dites Louis.

I don t deny being political. But I try to hold no specific political position. The artwork is meant as a meeting ground of ideas in order to stimulate the mind of the veiwer. But no specific message intended.

And as for fear. I am telling myself not to be afraid. The veiwer can choose to accept or reject this advice. I suppose I could have told myself BE AFRAID!! But I like DON T BE AFRAID better.

And biblically speaking, the holding hands dancing part happens after armegeddon. The apocalypse is a cleansing meant to turn the earth into a paradise.
