I have one of these as a small figurine.

My grandpa gave it to my dad, and he to me.

They are brilliant these monkeys, true prudence.

But does this enlightened indifference really work?

This lesson is fundamental and necessary, but what are its limits?

Cautious and practical wisdom through mimesis? See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil. Apparently there was a forth, a 'feel no evil' perhaps. One monkey isn't listening, one monkey isn't speaking, and one is blind, the limitations might be their individual foci(focuses), which are shortcomings and advantageous at the same time(heightened smell/hearing). Unfortunately the monkeys cannot avoid 'the evil', it is ever present in one form or another.
