What about CQ from TO?

Ok ok, I'm being retarded.

ummm...will I be allowed to see whatever it is that I'm showing before the show? Or will I have to wait along with all the others?

It's like this Massicotte. You need constant positive reinforcement and sometimes it has to be forced.(I knew your name on the poster would stir you up)

You'll be showing a portrait of Knackerson and Denis Prieur.

But really, I was hoping to ask you in person but I forgot. I was too drunk on your love. It's hard to focus on anything when you're around!

renamaphone said...

oh please.

It's like this culle-pops. I'm not really stirred up, but I really would like to see these drawings beforehand. Why did you choose them? Because they're the only ones you have? I'm not so sure that I want some lesser drawings to be shown for the sake of positive reinforcement, especially when I know I'm capable of far better.

Pride, I guess.

ps: on second thought, maybe my mom will buy one of them for a hundred bucks.

sincerely,
your blindingly loving friend,
Massicotte

and, i'm certainly of the pro-ren camp, and the art reinforcement camp, but wouldn't it have made more sense to put an artist on here who "earned" it a little more?

just a thought.

by "earned" i merely mean someone who had made a long and devoted practice of visual art, which ren, though we all love her to bits, hasn't really done, per se?

i'm not being a jerk here, am I?

i feel like this is a valid question for discussion/dancing...

There is alway someone who feels left out when thier name is not on the flyer. sorry but there was limited space for info. i used names that were new to the gallery. though jill and ren are no strangers to the label jill is never given enough credit for her work (ussually soft spoken awsome drawings) and Ren has not shown her work though her face has been in peices. we are an emerging artist gallery why not put emerging names on the flyer. c-money: you have to many enemies i fear that your name would scare people off. :)

for the record, Renee has been drawing for a long time, and has 'earned it'(whatever that means)I have many of her drawings, and I chose my favorite for the show. there's a brilliant portrait of denis included.

the best thing to do when you walk into the label, is to check your pride at the door.

and l-blizzard, the answer to your question is she has earned it. the real question (which you might want to ask yourself), have you?

I believe we're all equals when it comes to making art. when it comes to most things in fact!

Knackerson has a point there.
For the record:
The term 'emerging' is bullshit.

You'll have some people who will complain about being on a poster, you'll have some whine that they're not on it, you'll have some be mad that you didn't invite them to show. 6 of one and a half dozen of the other.

Part of collaborating is letting others decide things.(dan you're gonna take a hit there)

I sent a list to Dan. Dan chose the names. End of story. It's definitely not about who earned it(unless Dan has a little scale in his head that he uses to measure success)

I would've included everyone involved.

This again raises the issue of control, and frankly, it's Mr.Saidman's gallery, what he says goes. kappish?

Not that it's right.

He puts on the shows in his building. The Label Gallery is his.

Unless that's changed, unless it's about a bunch of people working together to make something happen. it's like that sometimes...

You guys make me giggle with joy so much! I love it!

Clubs of truth and razors of love are alive with the sounds of music!

We have all earned it, and it is Dan's gallery, kapish, and please give me a lecture, we all need it, and you don't know it all, emerging is the only thing.

So, can I get on the flyer or what?

Enemies! Love it!

:)

maybe I should have dropped a few more maybes and is that wrongs in there for you mr.bliz.

all is still up for discussion.

except 'earning' the right to be an artist or on a poster. that's absurd.
so you weren't being a jerk, just being silly.

But this isn't about you blizzo.
It's about the label gallery, it's about dan's gallery.

(ps I don't mean to deliver my words in ultimatums, unfortunately that's my writing voice, my apologies for everything that I have ever written and for all those I have offended)

may the discussion continue....

Every show I`ve been involved in at the Label has been a covert operation.
I`m ok with that. I really doubt that someone would come running to a show upon reading my name on a flyer(my fan base is still in it`s cellular stage).
I have a theory that one`s name possibly stands out more in a show when it`s not on the flyer.....
"who`s this???"
That or I`m just nutz.

Every now and again the club of truth and the razor of love must be put to the ground in favor of the handshake of equality and brotherhood. As Calvina and Hobbes once said: "What a great club..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................of truth

Bluemask, I really liked your dancing/embracing couple that was up at the Label a couple weeks ago. (I guess I'm a celluloid fan)

Carlos, all I can say is you're one in a million. YOU make me giggle. (oh don't worry, you make me rage too :)

Lastly, I wonder if all of this iteration/reiteration/dis-iteration resembles what people went through when the ol'telephone machine got up and running. Just imagine... a bunch of quasi-intellectuals and sensitive artists suddenly operating telephones, and BAM!
ALFA blogdom is(be?) born.

The creation of visual art is a guilty pleasure that Lorne dabbles in from time to time, to prove his theory that anyone, regardless of their actual level of artistic ability or training, can still create art.

anyone else feel like hiding the comments on this one?

Anonymous said...

yes, thanks to some poor dumb f**ker for quoting my website. funny stuff.

ALSO... i tossed and turned all night over this-- literally, 3.5 hrs of crappy sleep. partly due to my own anger, partly due to a sense of regret over what i feel like is a misrepresentation of what i was trying to say, due to my own poor wording.

no one has to "earn" the right to be on a flyer or anthing else. i don't know why i used that word. perhaps i should have replaced it with "need"-- as in, it would have made more sense to put someone like bluemask or jenni on the flyer b/c these small bits of publicity look good in a portfolio or an application for grants, solo shows, etc.

so maybe my concern was not so much about ren's wicked awesomeness, which is never in doubt, as it was about whether this would have the same value to her as it would to someone struggling to forge a career in the visual arts.

Anonymous said...

and i guess in the end it probably doesn't really matter all that much, does it?

Quitmoanez said...

Doesn't matter.

In fact, this was a good effort in testing the limits of the Art Reinforcement notion that anyone can indeed be an artist.

So, we are all struggling with the notion of the work needed to achieve such a title.

Struggle, struggle, struggle.

The sleep will come.
