Lake Lanterns

I went out to the Trout Music festival this weekend and did a lantern display on the lake. I started them on the floating dock and then sent them afloat. Jake Chenier took some great photos too, which incorporated the northern lights, so I'll be sure to post them when I get them. It was an interesting experiment. They floated around like an ever changing constellation. The bottom picture is a slightly over exposed photo of them on the dock.

Nice job!! It reminds me of a much better version of a time I was in Vietnam and I went on a boat cruise. At the end of the night, we all lit candles and sent them floating away into the river. however, it turned comically black when the candles either sank or bumped into garbage floating in the river and set it on fire. I laughed my ass off. Sounds like your experiment went much better!!! ;)

cOOL. This was inspired by a tea light I sent floating down the brokenhead river. But what I needed was a way to not cause fires or pollution. These little containers were perfect, in that they were easy to collect/monitor. Great story! (I think we're gonna jam on thursday of this week at my house if that works for you)

It looks wonderful.

I love how the last overexposed one makes me think of the "worst case scenarios" we discussed, hehe.

The lanterns were made with a slice of dowel, a sheet of vellum, a tea light and some staples.

A lot of people had these fears that they would catch things on fire but it was actually very safe and eco-friendly.

I missed the whole thing, and was probably just a hundred meters away.
