Think of the Children!?!

This post is dedicated to all the things that should/shouldn't be censored from the blog.

From the the point of view of anyone who accidently views this blog, or even comes on purpose maybe we should avoid posting images of the following:

Beer Bottles, Wine Bottles and/or Drunks - Promotes Alcohol
Japanese Maples - They look too much like a certain plant
Naked People - Private parts, shirtless people, you name it, no nudity AT ALL. Not even a boobie.
And anything else which could be offensive.
(feel free to add to this list, or take away from this list)
There's a lot of art out there that fits under this hood right? Sure, some art should be engaging, therein lies the argument. I'd suggest approaching each image/word as neutral as possible and consider what should be posted.

Or does it matter? Of course it matters.

Are you serious? Of all people (Considering some of your past porn/church art lol)...

I am quite sensitive to imagery and understand the need to draw the line somewhere but maples and a kid without a shirt bothers you? I think this is going too far (or not far enough as the case may be). To be honest the two posts you mention are not my favorites, for mostly the same reason you don't seem to care for them, but I tolerate them because they don't actually cross any REAL line of being offensive. If you keep pushing that proverbial line back further and further we'll have to clear cut all the evil maples we don't understand, look only at the ground, eat cabbage that died of natural causes and wear full head scarfs (not just cause we want to)being careful not to expose ankles or wrists. I for one think that decreasing liberties in this regard is more dangerous than someone elses ignorance about a harmless plant or family photo. Also, I plan to go shirtless at the beach again this summer! If anything you reference to Koreans is a bit weird and erasing bluemasks post would just be rude (He can do it if he wants, but I wont).

Ok who erased it?

Hypocrite?

You have some sanitation to do yourself Knack. What if a Korean accidentally comes across Dru`s photo gallery?

Lorne Roberts said...

and, not to stir the pot here, but, ... weren't you the person posting pics of your feces/genitals on the melee blog?

this blog has been going for a while, and we've all, collectively, stayed within good taste/respectable boundaries, etc.

i'm not sure we suddenly need to define a list of rules.

Lorne Roberts said...

and i agree w/ macro's assesment that someone's potential to be offended by a pic of a shirtless kid is vastly outweighed by the risk of curtailing the rest of our liberty to post.

D.Macri said...

Lol, ok guys enough with the Korean references, you're going to get me arrested or something.

Bluemask, did you erase that post?

I think the list of rules is already written in our minds. You know what is bad etc. James is clearly having a moment of sensitivity to certain issues/images, but I think it is not really well thought out, hehe. I imagine he will come around shortly (especially if he scans through the references/links I put above with the same fine tooth comb). Anyhow, lets not get all angry or anything, he has a write to express himself as much as anyone else (fleeting, unfounded concerns or anything) that's the beauty of the lesser version of censorship.

(The above comments may not be held by all participants of this blog and an exclusion of liability should be observed)

=P

We ALL have to right to express ourselves.I'm simply responding to the issue he raised.
I just changed the offensive picture. I`d prefer you kept the comments.
Now everyone try to go about your day without seeing a shirtless person. On TV, magazine, statue or painting. It must be a tough life to be offended every few minutes.

D.Macri said...

Ahh, good, I understand now. I'm glad you left the comments, and it was considerate of you to change the picture (even though you didn't have to).

PS. I'm not wearing a shirt right now :0

Forgive ME for calling the kettle black.

It's almost as though you people don't think I KNOW who I am and what I have posted in the past. The poo, the penis, and more. (when dru comes of age I'm sure I'll get what for. :)

I'm the poster boy for censorship.

I have gone where no other blogger has dared go. I know this. Sheesh.I'm not proud of it, oh no, oh no.

And I think that's why I have to speak up here. Not because I want everything removed, I actually think some of our current rules and regulations are ludicrous. More freedom I say! More Freedom!

That's what I've loved about the blog. It's free wheeling, no edits unless they're done by the person who posts it. I didn't touch anyone's post!

I HAVE found that sometimes I'll click no the blog and find something that startles me and I think why would someone post that. It begs the question.

Am I serious Macro? (all my past incidents with censorship apparently don't allow me to be)

My question is ARE WE SERIOUS?

Speak up people, this is a forum, grab your soapbox and be heard, but please be nice. And not so dramatic. yikes!

Everyone's pointing at me! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I'm soooooo sensitive right now, my nipples are burning....ahhhhhhhhhhh

I knew you'd come around =)

Lol @ "(all my past incidents with censorship apparently don't allow me to be)"

and Lol @ "Speak up people, this is a forum, grab your soapbox and be heard, but please be nice. And not so dramatic. yikes!"

Standing on a soapbox and not being dramatic is a bit of a contradiction to me, besides, you're one of the most dramatic ones =).

Sorry for thinking you might have done the "sanatizing" but your past kinda got me there too. I will try and give you more credit next time, everyone needs room to grow. Sorry sorry.

PS. I still have no shirt on

I was never really serious to begin with, I'm really glad that you could see that.

But this is obviously an issue, Mr.Admin. Thank you for allowing me to speak and not deleting my words as I type them. (bowing, lol)

Sorry for taking the liberty with your title, I thought it was cool to have korean characters (did they show up, or was it just squares?)and you'd dig it too.

Me no touch anymore.

I still think you need to loosen up a bit Knack. It appears that when you contradict youself- TA DA! you`re joking. There are a few worse things on the net than this blog. I can assure you.

Stir it up, little darling, Stir it up..... (Bob Marely)

I think the post of bluemask's son was beautiful, tasteful and fun, especially after he told us a bit about his boy.

I think the comment that sexualized it was stupid. It offended me that someone would annonymously ask that question and not be there to actually dialogue about it, in a respectful way, if it was in fact a sincere question.

In fact I think that if an annonymous comment is made it is up for being deleted.
In fact, annonymous posts are the equivalent to a prank call.

For the record I don't think that the picture begs that questions, however I'm all for sincere questions.

opps, i just tripped off my soapbox. Ouch.

Just a note on anonymous comments. For some this is the only way to comment unless they sign up and make a blog. I think it is ok to have a anon (we could technically remove it), as it allows you to ask questions or say things you might not normally, and this isn't always bad. If in the future we have some problem with that, yup we can delete them.

Lorne Roberts said...

If someone doesn't have a blog, etc, and they'd like to comment, they can certainly do so and still add some sort of name to their anon post-- Joe E, or Ellen X or whatever.

But in terms of using it to say things you wouldn't normally say... if you're not willing to attach your name or identity to it, then perhaps you recognize something in it that ought not to be said?

Anonymous said...

Ah, true. This is something I recently started doing since new blogger ask me for my whole email to be typed in. Now I just say 'other' and type in my name. Still there are other uses for anonymous comments. Just cause you don't want your name on it doesnt mean its going to be a bad comment. For example, lets say you want to debate on behalf of something you don't really favor...
For example, lets say I wanted to make comments about gay rights, but am a bit shy about waving a pink banner since im hetro. There are lots of reasons besides saying something cheeky, to make an anonymous comment. Most of us do it on a regular basis, not using our real names. Lots of people don't know who wolfboy or cdog really are, and I think that's ok. It's not that we are ashamed, just a bit of privacy on the ol'blogosphere. If you all find this is nonsense and want me to disable anonymous comments speak up, and I'll click the button (but my vote is to allow them, I see it as a similar issue to censorship, being allowed to say what you want, with or with out your true identity tied to it {clearly if it is abused we can respond accordingly}).

That`s why Ole` Bluey here has never posted an anon!
keep it real dawg!

Look at 'Blue "MASK"' taking credit for being himself. Wana impress me, Post as "Justin Waterman from Winnipeg" all the time. =P

Anonymous said...

you just did for me. If you prefer real names, I`m up for it. Justin Waterman stands behind everything that the Blue Mask has to say.

Nah, stick to bluemask, I don't want you being a victim of identity theft just to prove a point.
