so here is the final show for the label gallery. i would like to thank all my friends that spent a day or evening at the gallery.
i have been stuck on whether it was the space or people that made the label a fun place to be and i can only assume it coming to an end was because of timing, not only for me, but also for the people involved. we all were at transition points during the label years and used art to find direction and the space helped give us the confidence to move forward.
so
even if you for fall on your face, it's still moving forward
thanks for the memories

oh golly.
you wanna talk about falling on your face?
shit, man, i could tell you some stories. my former (albeit brief) life as a homeless vagrant, for one.
my current life in montreal for two, where i am setting world records for loneliness, poverty, and jobs i am vastly overqualified for.
but hey... rien a fait, rien profiter. or something like that.
nothing ventured, nothing gained.
movement and growth involves risk, always.
p.s. i think it could be argued that the label changed all of our lives to varying degrees.
if nothing else, it brought us all together as a group.
for me, it gave me the confidence to say "i am a writer" without hesitation.
and then, the confidence to say: "i am an artist" without hesitation.
and then, to say: "I am a musician".
and to BE all of those things, too, without apology or fear.
and, like i said, it brought me into contact with some pretty cool people, too.
Huzzah! Thanks for the great times Dan. I met some amazing people through Label and fortified other existing friendships.
Plus, you were unselfishly there for our friends when we really needed it.
Great run. Good luck everyone and I'll see you Peggers at the last show!
I know everyone on this blog as a result of the Label. Multiply that by all the others who've met and connected at various shows...an incredible ripple effect!
Not to mention all the CV's in the next few years with "A Label for Artists" on them...
such as Sarah Anne Johnson, who just won the $50,000 Grange Prize for photography.
:)
Here's a prophecy:
the labels not going anywhere
Dan sorry I didn't have time to clean up the stage after that death of the label show.
Dan have you solidified any deals with potential buyers/ renters? I was talking to Johanna Willows in montreal who's Mother, a prominent communist in Winnipeg, wants to rent or buy a space for bookstore/ music venue.
A Label for Communists?
No, the label lives on, I think we'll be seeing a lot of it in the form of the ALFA blog.
