The land of the walking marriage

I read this article today.
I was most interested in the Mosuo's mores and rules associated with love, marriage and commerce.

I have mixed feelings about this system.
it is a really interesting point of reference to examine my own beliefs about marriage.

Interesting system...A mom's job is inarguably the hardest job on earth.

So I guess it's up to the son's to make the cash to support the system. So it's probably up to the mother to make boys rather than girls? hmmmm. I dunno. And I thought we were weird.

I think it was that girls and boys are both supposed to support the mother. Apparently, (in another article I read) the family units are supposed to have a balance of boys and girls. There is no real preference for boys or girls, true gender equity.

It's interesting because this system just functions with gender equality, it wasn't set up, intentionaly to make that happen.
Gender equality seems to be the logic rather than a forced issue like it can be in a more patriarchial system like we have.
