I know it's not really 2008 New Years related, but it was created in 2008 =)
It will take me 10 years to get around to actually carving it, but this design was inspired by a recent fascination with chess, and my interest in Northern culture (as well as Carlos's).

that looks beatuiful.
Genius!
wow. if/when this comes to fruition, i'll learn chess just so i can use it.
did you draw these?
Thank you for your nice comments.
Yea, they are pencil drawings photographed and photoshopped to be repeated (I only drew one inukshuk for example). Now that Lorne said he'll play, I HAVE to make it. Maybe I can cut the time down to 8 or 9 years, hehe.
I would shop around for a grant or investor for this.
The drawings are great and the colors you used remind me a lot of the color of inuit sculptures(soapstone?sandstone?)
Even the fading backdrop makes me think of the north. nice work worky workerson.
the igloo makes an excellent rook, although if you don't mind me saying the drawing is a little wonk.
I don't mind the comment OR the wonk =)
When you do the inookshook(sp?), you'll have to connect your tool to a long stick with a bunch of other tools so that you can carve them exactly the same, all at once.
I love the design. Also visit https://chess-boards.com/soap-stone-chess-set/ for more Soapstone chess and future projects. Thank you
