at first i though knack was going to reveal this to us in stages. then i enlarged the image.

i'm torn on this one. but i kinda like it.

very (ahem) post-modern.

I am sure it was a lot of hard work and that the artist must be proud. -"L"

I like that he has his eyes closed for the picture. It's as though he was the only one who could see the sculpture. Looking with the mind.

Have you ever read Le Petit Prince?

This reminds me of Drawing Number One: A boa constrictor digesting an elephant.

The drawing is used by the narrator as an indicator of imagination (my paraphrase here)

That being said, I like the folds of the cloth...and maybe other things too, I just can't help but giggle a little...

Olivia thinks it looks like two people having a pillow fight under a blanket, their arms are straight but they are hitting each other under the wide part of the blanket.

okay, here are the other things I like about it.
I like its refusal. seems like an act of refusal or something.

it refuses to be unveiled and to be categorized, despite/especially because it uses a traditional (or it looks that way anyways) sculptural aesthetic.

What do you think is under the sheet?

Looks like there are two people.

Who are they?

I love it. I think it's brilliant. It makes a statement, and it's also visually appealling.

anonymous comments drive me up the friggin' wall, sorry.

even if you're not a member of the blog, it's possible to post a name or ID of some kind.

plus i tend not to put much stock in them.

wolfBoy, would the comment really be more valid if Anonymous had posted as foxGirl?

Or how about if Anonymous said that Lorne Roberts was an artist that she greatly admired? Would you then appoligize and want to buy her a beer?

Anonymous, as opposed to FoxGirl, suggest to me that you have something to hide. Immediately, I think: "this person is probably the artist himself, or a friend of the artist, otherwise, why wouldn't they just post under some kind of ID"?

So yes, to answer the question, the comment (in my opinion) would then be more valid. Even MoosePerson or FoxGirl can be verifiable ID's, in that they might link us to your blog, etc.

And I'm not sure I said anything that merits apology. But I'll buy pretty much anyone a beer at least once, smart ass.

And why does it matter if it's the/an artist or a stranger, do you communicate with these groups differently? In what way, and how does it apply to you not knowing who's who, on a comment... on a blog. Just be yourself with everyone and it should be kosher right?

Under the blanket are my parents at their wedding, the moment their picture was taken. It's all I ever knew of them together.

From an interview with the artist, he told me that this was inspired by Magritte's "Les Amoureux", which pictures two people wrapped in what appears to be seperate sheets, kissing. At 90" tall the artist felt that the size of the people underneath could be a couple from St.Boniface. The sculpure is also inspired by the tradition of drapery in art, you know, like when you're asked to do a still life of a blanket on top of something. The platform they're on is sort of a mattress, which is interesting, it's like the couple has stood up out of bed or something.

does anyone else see the humour in discussing anonymity in relation to comments about this sculpture?
