The Smoky Tiger Versus Philosophy

Socrates, originally uploaded by The Stranger.

Here the Smoky Tiger with skin like Krisjna, wearing the crown of the Silla Kings and wielding the frisbee of Chaos delivers a knockout blow to his good friend Socrates.

I love it. Whose next Aristotle?

Why the hate-on for philosopy?

You have yet to convince me that you have any sort of relevant alternative.

So while I totally love this work, I really do, some of your best I think, I actually find your distaste for philosophy obnoxious (probably 'cause I love it so much!).

On a very high level, essentially you're discounting all the ideas that, whether you like it or not, fund all of your ideas.

You cannot escape the soup of ideational history that constitute all modern thought. No one discovers anything new, it has all been thought and acted; surely, this is one definition of God.

And you shouldn't treat your friends, like Socrates here, so roughly!

:)

My last statements were only fuelled by pissiness.

Sorry.

You're last email concerning the fact that one should look at their critiques as reflecting more a self-analysis as opposed to anything else may apply here.

Again, love the art, love it! But Plato's my boy G!

Hold on!

The comments about fat america resting on its haunches' and the apathetic acceptance of convention is most definately built on the foundations of philosophies of old. I believe Andrew is suggesting something new and lively (albeit related) could sprout from the ruins of thes archaic thinkers. Plato and Socrates are far less relevant in the world of internets and nanotech and gmo's. To help understand imagine the title as "Tiger Philosophy Vrs. Other Philosophies". It is no less absurd an "alternative" than watching TV and drinking Cola as the world unravels.

(PS. I get your point, and don't worry C. it didn't sound too pissy. I can't blame you for resisting when we knock down what you work so hard to build).

Also, historically this is what happens.

Cultures knocking down other cultures statues, breaking the heads and arms off, smashing the snakes. We have even seen it in our time, with a steel Saddam being dragged down in the court of international televised philosophy and mind control!

Read the ancient philosophers and I dare say you'll come to appreciate their relevance to today's challenges.

Empires are empires, adn their problems are all alike.

And as per my building that you tear down, it's easy to rebuild with recycled material!

:)

Haven't we bettered 'it', in all this time? If that's true, that we haven't, it REALLY makes me want to go smashy smashy. And I think when we are being so metaphorical in the first place, talking about tigers and ghosts, I suggest "vrs" could very well mean: "...accepts, understands, argues and disagrees with, incorporates and dismisses, learns and forgets other...". The human struggle/condition that all art is about. Old empires and new ones, are the same and different.
It's kind of the old change always/never happens argument... again. We've been here before, and here too. Let's break this damned rusty hamster wheel and run in the fields where we belong!

Quitmoanez said...

This is where we belong, it's just time to do it right.

Does that make any sense!?

Lol, yes just barely.

Evolution. Re-evolution. Revelation.

Revulsion.

I like the Smoky Tiger versus Socrates idea. The Tiger of course, is a tiger pup, but that pup can dream.

The smashing of icons. Watch out there Tiger, the throne is a throne of flames!

Next thing you know, you'll be high on gluttony, reeling with pleasure, but is that where wisdom lies?

PS. I think you The Tiger should Smoke Plato next.
