Help Wanted...

I have been watching way too much football these days instead of making art. I feel that I need some inspiration and would love to watch a couple of documentaries about art or artists. Do any of you artsy fartsy people out there have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for all your help.

F'n I love football.

I call Sunday my FootballSundayWorkDay, where I work on my computer as I listen to the noise of wonder that is the game!

And I'm serious, people can attest, from pre-game show to Sunday's at times midnight closer, love it.

If I were you, I'd go and search out those really cool old NFL documentaries, about the frozen tundras and the helmetless warriors, who play out one of our deepest and most socially binding of activities: competition amongst our warriors.

Then, make art from that.

There are a series of TV bio's on canadaian artists especially prairie ones. I know dorthy Knowles and Tony Tascona did em. Check out your local library.

The Basquete movie is pretty good too

Ah,

Best thing is to watch some skinny dude make his finger crook and say silly things.

William Wegman is a photographer/film maker who has a number of strange, steeped in hilarity pieces... If you can find anything on him, watch it.

Football is the last thing I "want" to be watching. I was thinking about docs on people like Clemente, Basquiat, Patterson Ewen, Chuck Close, or weird stuff about Outsider Art or just plain crazy people (I will checK out Wegman). So please stop teling me to watch football and keep the artsy shit coming please.

I can only thin of the obvious ones at this time (They probably aren't all good):

The Devil and Daniel johnson

Frida

Crumb

Pollock

Basquiat

Surviving Picasso

Art School Confidential

This is kind of a good idea. What are some others? There is a VanGogh one and a Michaelangelo one too right?

also, i'd suggest you watch more football. it makes you very manly and butch.

i saw a great doc last week about jack bush and (i think) some of the regina 5/ emma lake people. i was exhausted, a bit too drunk, and it was really late, so rather than really focusing on the doc, i was thinking: please god, don't let me get sick...

You should (re)rent that Dali flick from the library (if they still have it) where he comes out of the eggshell on the beach, runs around some bizzare sculpture, and pretty much the only dialogue is "Dali is Dali!!" That's about as un-football as it gets.

smgghzi: Basque slang for "American Football has too many commercials."
