Tarot

First post in some time... I recently came across the tarot after not looking at it for quite a long time (years and years) and had forgotten how much meaning is to be found in it.  I got a personal reading from a computer, but I think the meaning of these cards transcends even that (and funny, I'm not usually in any way superstitious or overly spiritual).

Anyways, there are two cards that appeared multiple times in the set given to me: The Emperor and The Fool.  They are together as both of my 'core cards' and my 'luck cards'.  I've always felt some affinity for The Fool, so that made a lot of sense.  Also, the characteristics of the Emperor are pretty close to general personality traits for Capricorns, of which I am one (I think my own astrological profile is fairly accurate, for whatever reason...), so that seems reasonable.

These two cards are in many ways contradictory - the Fool is all about risk, impulse, freedom, living in the moment, while the Emperor is about control, conformity, conservativity.  What is the medium between these two?  In other words, how can one find balance between such opposing inner forces??

The Lovers showed up as one of my 'power cards' (along with the Fool).  Love, empathy, passion.  In Freudian terms, the ego mediating between the id and the super-ego.

There's definitely something to this I think...

I'm an Aquarius Sky, yet I'm born right on the cusp (Jan 20) so I maintain many traits of the Capricorn. I find that my astological profile (of Aquarius) is usually quite accurate as well. What you said is interesting as Aquarians maintain many (if not all) of the traits of the Fool (specifically impulse which usually results in massive mood swings that can sometimes be mistaken as apathy). However, being born on the cusp, I find that I also have many Capricon traits like control and conformity which create conflict within myself. I often times feel like I could quite easily be two different people depending on my mood or the situation. Anyways, aside from all that I was wondering when your birthday is as you sound very much like a cusp sign as well? Where did you get this online tarot reading? Kudos on the topic, I love this kind of stuff.

kudos, indeed.

i'm taurus, therefore (it's said) stubborn, determined, occasionally unflexible and bullish.

however, i'm a day away from being gemini, so therefore i'm apparently dual in nature-- stubbornly wishy-washy? determinedly dualistic?

interesting topic.

I'm a gemini but on the Taurean cusp, so I can also see a mix but I always attributed this to being dualistic and wishy washy.

I'm an Aries (I think so is James, thats why we lock horns so often). By the chinese zodiac I'm a water ox.

I'm a Sagittarius, and I'm described as mighty, but ultimately weakened by my own passions.

And as to what is the medium between these two:

You are.

Sure I'm the medium. I am also the extreme ends, at the same time!

My birthday is Jan. 13, so I'm thoroughly Capricorn.

I got the reading through facebook. You can get anything there now, it seems.

Aquarian here... The Water-Man

Cara,

You geminis are always dualistic and wishy-washy!

Kidding...

My dad, uncle, brother, and son are all geminis, born within one week of each other at the end of May. Add to that week (all on separate days from May 22-29) my wedding anniversary and the date my brother died, and it's quite a time in my life!

ya, geminis are good people.
sounds like you are related to a lot of them.
:)

I've wondered about the clustering that happens in a person's life around certain dates and times.

bluemask, are you seriously an Aquarian? that's pretty cool.

I too am Aquarian, and like Donmaximo my birthday is close to the cusp (Jan. 22). However I find myself a fairly complete Aquarian: a truth seaker, who holds strong convictions but is capable of changing his mind when proven wrong; a humanitarian, compassionate, but also (ironically) detached; very loyal; creative and intensely (perhaps annoyingly) independent refusing to follow the masses on just about everything.

Funny how apt this astrology stuff can be. At one point I wondered if it had to do with how a child developed in the first years of life (i.e. if being two months in a certain season, or having your birthday party in May rather than September) could effect your personality, but I realize that it
probably has nothing to do with biology and environment, and everything to do with mystical forces that our reason obsessed age cannot begin to understand.

I am also a cusper (pisces/aries). Have you ever noticed how people born on the cusp are drawn to others who are as well? The majority of my friends are. Maybe we understand and even appreciate the duality and the unpredictability. I don't really know. But I agree with what's being said here. Growing up, before I knew anything about what it meant to be born on the cusp, I could only partly relate to the piscean character. Later, when I learned to throw a little aries in the mix, everything suddenly made sense.

This stuff is cool.

I'm pretty sure that there is truth to be found in all of:

- the tarot
- astrology
- psychology
- biology
- interpersonal environment
- physical environment
- things we don't know
- things we can't know
- self-fulfilling prophecies

Okay stinkers, listen up. Tarot and Astrology are related but are not the same thing. But there is an easy way to figure out what Sky calls a 'power card'. (mine is the chariot, number 7)

Here's how you figure it out. Tak eyour birthday and year and add them up, below is my birthday as an example...

March 28, 1974

3 + 28 + 1974 = 2005 and then 2+5 = 7

there are a few rules if your numbers equal more than 13 or something, but I'd have to look that up...

- hey do you all know what your ascendant signs are? More interesting than the typical sun sign if you ask me. Mine's aquarius and holy dinah is it ever accurate.

- Hey Winnipegaphone- c'mon down!

woah. Mine's #5 - the Hierophant.

mine is #3-the Empress

interesting stuff.

You better tell me those rules, James!

Jan. 13, 1972

1 + 13 + 1972 = 1986

1 + 9 + 8 + 6 = 24

???

You add the digits of the sum together if it is over 21.

So you would be a 6.

Which is... The Lovers, the top card in this post.
