but most of the magic and whimsy happens in camp. the actual work part of things is pretty brutal, and involves eating lunch or pooing in the rain, getting devoured by black flies, and hours of walking through swamps.
not to mention the physical pain.
but i think the brutal aspect of the planting is part of what makes camp life so magical and whimsical. it's such an incredible repreive, where all the suffering drops away and is replaced with joy.
but don't get me wrong. there's some joy in the brutal, repetetive, suffering nature of planting, too.
