Knackerson.... "But we've gotta have standards right?
Here's a few of mine: (please don't take offense) 1. No posting other people's images without permission.(use a link) 2. No shameless self promotion of upcoming events.(use a link if you want to mention it, but don't make it the subject of your post) 3. keep it about art (or culture)
too much?"
I guess it was more of a suggestion than an outright ban. I'm happy to see gig posters, and shameless promotion in general. Music=Art
Today...I'd have to argue that gig posters are art. Greg Oakes would be the grandmaster of all gig poster artists, it's a whole genre that cannot be overlooked.
I love to look back on things that I once held as some kind've inner law and realize that I had my head up my butt.
And...Today..if I could put some kind've standards or rules on what we do...well, I dunno. I don't really want to exclude anyone or anything. I know those who don't like it when people post more than 3 photos at once...or when photos posted are like somebody's family album...or when in the comments section people use .... dots like that....like talk about annoying!
But if I can flip this to what I LOVE seeing is collaboration in the form of back to back posts(sky and I rule), and lots of variety and that means poetry, painting, photos (oh shit, they all start with p!), drawing, video, music, fiction, etc. It shows our diversity.
I think self promotion has a place here. Besides, promoting events fits in with the social aspect of this blog, which is what I like most about it. I don't think there's any threat if this degenerating into a steady stream of ads! More like 1 or 2 posts a month.
A Love for Art was a collaborative blog for visual artists, musicians, writers, and social scientists. This blog has evolved into a new blog called BETA, go check it out!

I'm all about self-promotion, and the proof is in the pudding.
