I'm sure if god was a painter, yea, he'd brush his teeth too.
But what I'm getting at is that there is an easy way to paint a starlit sky. If you get some dark sky colour paint, and thumb a toothbrush at it with white, KABOOM, the universe comes into existence (or a depiction of it in a 2D rectangle at least)!
