I'd just like to say that ordinary people don't care about artists, and ordinary people especially don't care about blogs about art.

i think harper himself said something along those lines, about ordinary canadians not caring about artists, to justify his massive cuts to art funding.

btw, here's some food for thought from StatsCan:

"Nationally, 43.4% of francophones reported that they were bilingual, compared with 9.0% of anglophones."

"I think when ordinary working people come home, turn on the TV and see a gala of a bunch of people at, you know, a rich gala all subsidized by taxpayers claiming their subsidies aren't high enough, when they know those subsidies have actually gone up – I'm not sure that's something that resonates with ordinary people," Harper said in Saskatoon, where he was campaigning for the Oct. 14 election.

"Ordinary people understand we have to live within a budget," he said.

(from the Toronto Star)

Kind of a weird comment coming from a guy who's been to far more taxpayer-funded galas than most artists.

And I guess none of us are "ordinary Canadians".

Anyway, gotta run. I've got a big gala to go to. My limo is waiting. I couldn't get the stretch limo this time, since they've cut my funding down to five figures again.
Bastards.

Ha! Too funny wolfie. My fear is that this whole shinanegan is an orchestrated attempt by Harper to get his majority. Make the opposition look power hunger and make them side with the bloc and then get the majority...watch, it'll happen. c'est dommage, non?

Call me crazy, but I think he had a point. That quote was a direct referrence to the Quebec version of Gemenis (wolfie?)- Where every subsidized director/actor took turns bashing the government on the mic (not too long after an increase in funding to the Canadian film industry(( albeit a result of a backlash from the threat to introduce some sort of artistic merit for funding. Which was a disaterous proposal). And if you or I went in to your average grocery store and randomly asked if this resonated with them, I doubt it would. I still think the (suggested) cuts were blown out of preportion.
On the other hand, you have a preposed "stimulus package". Throwing our money at a problem to make it go away. Reserves? Health Care? Gun Registry? Mind you, I wish I could throw money at my current computer problem!
I always feel like the black sheep here. But without a right winger in the blog, you guys would all be agreeing and throwing pixie dust at each other!
I'm kidding!

"Preposed"? Starting sentences with "And"s and "But"s! Who IS this clown?
