Music, People & Open Sky

I tried to capture, with my inexpensive digital camera, the awesome sky of Saturday evening at Folk Fest. The moisture of a very hot afternoon clashed with a chilly wind, creating a drama unique to the wide open prairie. To the west the sun's setting cast a rich red-orange glow on the clouds, as if it were trying desperately to hold on to the last remnants of a glorious day. To the east it was blue-dark, brooding and overcast, foretelling what would be an ice-cold, misty night with not nearly enough rain to quench the dusty ground.

sat night was amazing. some of the best music i've seen in ages.

los de abajos ("the underground") from mexico city finished off the night. 2 hours of non-stop energy and dancing. there was about 10 of them-- a horn section w/ two backup singers, a lead singer, a guitar, drums, bass, a DJ, etc, and they all just danced non-stop the whole show. it was crazy-- political, fun, energetic, organic house music.

and bruce cockburn sunday night? forget about it! "if i had a rocket launcher" is STILL running through my head a day later.

nice pics. they really capture the weirdness of the weather.
