How I wish you could find decent persimmons in Manitoba... when we lived in South Korea, shortly after our daughter's birth one of my students, an older gentleman, gave us a large box of them from his brother's farm. My wife probably ate three or four a day for weeks...
They're much better, and a lot larger (about the size of a medium to large size apple) than the ones that get shipped over here. It's like that with many fruits, as the smaller, denser, less ripe ones are easier to ship without damage. When I was in the Caribbean they had some small delicate fruits called roseapples that could barely survive an hour-long walk in a plastic bag without getting mushed, but they were so delicious!

I've only ever tasted persimmons here in Canada, but I can imagine they are better farm fresh.

mmmmm roseapples sounds amazing, I read they taste like rose water?
True?
Hmmm... I'm not sure. They have a very light flavour, and the texture is something like a slurpee, but a little firmer - just melts in your mouth!
