Manufactured Landscapes
One night, I was recently watching CBC when they featured this photographer, Edward Burtynsky. He takes pictures of industrial landscapes from all over the world, China, Bangladesh and the U.S.A. He takes these pictures to show us a part of the globe that we're not usually exposed to but that are very reflective of our time.

Yes, very cool.
The top one reminds me of a peice of fiction I recently wrote. It's about some 12 years old boys that live in a fishing town where the boatyard has a monster that's made of old, abandoned ships.
a lot of black
call me anita i miss you
F'n crazy.
Amazing.
Yeah, this guy had a show in Montreal, and it was really awesome. The photos were large, and brilliant. Awesome.
It's funny how these images seem to be from a sci-fi or futuristic movie. Shows how detached we are from the products of consumption.
As an aside, to me it looks like Winnipeg has built the city around some of its factories. The Schneider's meat plant is just down the street from my mom's house, and she lives in St. Boniface! I don't see too much of that in my neck of the woods. (I'm not bashing Winnipeg, just making an observation)
I wonder what kind've photos he would take in the molson factory down the street from you. or the cigarette factory on ontario.
winnipeg hasn't really cleaned up their post-industrial stuff yet. and you still gotta make weiners somewhere, right? mmmm weiners.
"oh man, we're outta weiner helper, pass me that bag of sawdust, we needs more filler."
