Romeo and Juliet in Sarajevo
Admira Ismić (b. 1968) and Boško Brkić (b. 1968), killed May 19, 1993 by snipers during the war in the former Yugoslavia.
They were lovers who were forced apart by the war b/c they were on different sides of the ethnic divide. They tried to meet up secretly on a bridge, were both shot, and then crawled towards each other to die in each other's arms.
Have a nice day.

Ugh.
yeah-- hug the ones you love today.
Horrific and beautiful.
Wow, that's depressing. Why do you want to make me feel sad? Okay...I guess its my job to lighten the mood.
not meant to make people feel sad, though i realize why it could have that effect. it was simply intended to provide a modern and "fleshly" counterpoint to sky's post below.
She was Muslum, he was serb. They negotiated with both sides through a local gangster/warlord to leave peacefully for serb terratory. Although she knew that she would be treated harshly by the serbs even if her bf was a serb. She risked it because he had stayed with her in the Muslum section of Sereivo. He was hot first and died instantly, she was wounded and instead of trying to reach cover she crawled to him for a last embrace, she died shortly after. Their bodies remained in the street for eight days.
