Connections, etc.

Funny how sometimes you see something, read/hear something, and suddenly the connection is made between several things that, up until then, had formed no connection in your mind.

Came across this image on the 'net today-- Clarence Tillenius, noted Canadian wildlife artist, backpacking in 1957.

Some of you may recognize the image from a bluemask dyptych?

hey-- this guy looks like sky.

I don't see the resemblance.

So, Bluey, are you saying you made that picture not knowing who your reference was?

(I previously thought your painting was of a guy with his his hand in his pants. Now it seems obvious, it's just a sleeve.)

It was done rather quickly from the same size as this pic. I wasn`t happy with it. So I added some "artistic license". I usually start painting over a disliked work in sections by adding on (to see it can be salvaged). I stopped after the plane. I've since nailed a smaller work of Superman flying over Wpg`s Exchange District to this one.
The painting is called "Tillenius Dreams", so I never claimed anything about it.

I see the Sky resemblance. Could eb someone in my family too. Maybe it's the nose or the forehead.

It sounds like your piece turned into a Courtnage. I always wonder about sampling like that. Duchamp's Mona Lisa with a moustache might be one of the first I know of. Or when in the renaissance figures and poses are rerepresented.

What else is cool is that we're looking at a photo of a painting of a photo. Why the hell do artists do that?

They don't know how to stop, musicians are the same way.

Courtnage always mentions the final version as his fave of mine. I must`ve borrowed some influence there.

the sky/tillenius resemblance--

both of them wear a cool explorer's hat, and both look full of thoughts.
