Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane, the great french algerian soccer star.  perhaps the greatest soccer player of all time.

even if you don't care to watch this whole video, watch the first 34 seconds.

the move he executes between 0:24 and 0:33 is literally awe-inspiring.  it's like ballet.

Ballet for sure.

I just watched again, egad, so amazing the way he trapped that ball and controlled it while spinning around 360 at 40 mph, crazy.

Professionalism is highly recognisable.

no doubt.

i saw him play against Brazil twice in the World Cup (on TV of course)-- in '98 in the finals, and in the quarterfinals in '06.

both times, brazil was a better team, maybe the best team in the world, and both times, he single-handedly shredded them with this endless precision passing and ball control you see here.

and one of the coolest art works i've ever seen is a 90-minute real time video of him in a game with real madrid, where 20 cameras follow his every move at every angle.

the video, when i saw it at the National Gallery, was shown on two split screens, each one 25 ft long and 20 ft high.

it sort of makes him look god-like.

reminds me of the roman emperor Constantine's colossal statue of himself.

yeah, i guess, except m. zidane didn't make the movie in homage to himself-- others did it of their own volition due to the excellence of his work.

did you watch any of the video?

this guy does ballet moves at 30 km/h. it's astounding.

maybe the italian in you can't bear to see a dude from france getting all the glory?

ha ha. of course i'm (half) kidding.
