Good. That place was a fire hazard. All that creativity was bound to combust sooner or later.

Now Dan can get on with his art and his education and leave the show organizing to those curator types.

Here's to new beginnings!!!!

And now Dan can contribute to this blog more. Because it is obvious that this blog will continue to grow despite death threats.

That's sad. Maybe it will reopen someday.

I think Dan was a kick-ass curator for most shows. I've been to "pro" curated shows, no different. I'll miss the Label's love it or leave it feel. No BS, this is what was submitted, the artist believes it's art, so....you decide. I've been inspired just as much, if not more by Label shows as I have the Plug-in, or Wpg Art Gallery ones. As much as we like to salute new beginnings, I think we are only kidding ourselves to think that the 'peg has not lost an integral part of the art scene.
The new plans are exciting, but to deny that there is a loss (to me that is) seems to render the last 6 years invalid, which I don't believe they were.
I'm not saying that these are anyones opinions, just a counter point to possible speculations.
A lot of arts reviewers missed out on a lot of Winnipeg culture.

I think Dan organised some wonderful shows, no doubts there H20, but I think curating has a little more to it than getting everyone to bring some art in and have a party.

With that said, we had some great parties, moments, and memories, and no one can take that away. Somehow we were even able to publicly acknowledge and recognize those good times in the Free Press and the Uniter, etc.

And this show will be a big hurray! hurray! hurray! to that.

That's not denial.

OKay, we're done looking back, living in the past, mourning loss.

Spring is here, let's look forward, let's look towards the next thing, the future is fecund.

I think that this change/idea is the best thing for our friend, art show organiser, and entrepreneur Daniel Saidman. He's done his part, put in his time to a great idea that filled a gap in Winnipeg's art community.

I look forward to seeing what he has in store for us next.

(waterman, is the spelling error on the title a pun?)

Whenever you notice a spelleng error in my posts, assume it's a pun :)
I agree with you on everything! I'm all about change, not a fan of dwelling on the past. but, You can acknowledge that some aspects of the previous incarnation will be missed, while celebrating the new ones. I'm merely syaing "Cheers!" to a job well done, that's not dwelling is it?

defintion of curator:one who has the care and superintendence of something; especially : one in charge of a museum, zoo, or other place of exhibit

I think the label has likely been all of those things at some point in time or another in my estimation.

I'm wondering what the difference between art organizer and curator is?

Curators sip wine and stick their noses up in the air because they have an art history degree and art organizers ask artists to drop off whatever they want and know how to use a hammer.

no, really, I think good art curating involves: Research. Study. Writing. Rewriting. Analyzing. More Research. And then a professional presentation of a concise idea supported by the art.

Sprinkled with lots of thought, not the kind you do in a week-end.

Not that those other kind of art shows don't have their place, I don't think of them as curated. But I suppose the label motto "everyone is an artist" can also assume that "everyone is a curator" and that "everyone can be anything".

Can I be a brain surgeon? Tomorrow?

Who says you're an artist? the whole circle debate begins.....and where did you get your definition of a curator?
I'm sure that the requirements for surgery and art vary. Just give him a raised glass, I'm not asking much lol! It won't hurt, I promise.
