By juxtaposing these two images, Culleton creates a metaphor that compares the social state of the sparrow and this young woman. Is this freedom?

Oh no, here we go again about freedom.

I think there is no such thing.

Freedom to me implies something that can not possibly be in the world, meaning something that is free of any connection, read restraint, and that again, is impossible.

Every single thing exists in connection, regardless of time or level.

Some things just happen to be more connected, so maybe that's where freedom lies, in understanding how to make connection as harmonious as possible.

Oh no, there it is, I see the crack, I see the crack opening, do you see it? The light is coming in, I can't stand it!

:)

And by the crack, I mean this:

"Democracy"

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall...

i was just having some of those similar thoughts (about freedom but not democracy in particular)

the thing about flying away is that eventually you need a place to land, and even that is a connection...or if i apply what i'm learning in school these days a coupling (loose or tight).

what is interesting about the concept of coupling in organizations is it's state of responsiveness and ability for each element to retain it's seperateness even in proximity.

Freedom is one of those things, like time, art, or the universe It's finite AND unbounded. There are certainly many things beyond our philosophies.
